Sentient project Launch - Redfin BBQ

November 10th 2018, at 12PM - QEII Lawn outside MAMA

Part-performance, part conversation space and also a food event, the BBQ is an invitation to share in the conversations and stories that make up the river.

Caught by local fishing groups of the Riverina area, redfin perch will be served to all at the event. Redfin perch is an introduced species and a delicious freshwater fish. Its predatory characteristics make it threatening to the native fish population. By sharing this fish amongst ourselves, we will assist the at-risk ecosystem of River Murray, and also create an opportunity for the communities of the Sentient project and the River Murray to come together.

Nature Classroom

Friday 2nd November at 11 am, Apex Park (The Pines)

This experiential workshop for primary school aged children will take place in the Apex parklands on the banks of Lake Hume, in view of the Bethanga Bridge, which links Lake Hume Village (NSW) and Bellbridge (Victoria).

Introducing the idea of catching Redfin as a way to engage and stimulate conversations around migration and river usage, this textile drawing workshop will be lead by artist James Nguyen, and will also include a fishing demonstration and a DNA testing of the river. This DNA test indicates the presence of Redfin in the river environment and will be demonstrated by a representative of Department of Primary Industries in Albury.
